12.Five Ways to Build Self-Confidence
Walk Faster.
One of the easiest ways to tell how a person feels about herself is to examine her walk.People with confidence walk quickly.They have places to go,people to see,or important work to do.Even if you aren't in a hurry,you can increase your self-confidence by putting some energy in your step.(36)B.
(37)F
One of the best ways to build confidence is listening to an inspiring speech.Unluckily,chances to listen to a great speaker are few.You can fill this need by creating a personal speech.Write a 30~60-second speech that focuses on your strengths and goals then recite it aloud whenever you need a confidence push.
Sit in the Front Row.
In school,offices and some other public places people always sit at the back of the room,(38)G This is for lack of self-confidence.By deciding to sit in the front row,you can get over this meaningless fear and build your self-confidence.
Speak up.
During group discussions many people never express their opinions because they're afraid that people will judge them for their saying something stupid.(39)ABy making an effort to express your opinions at least once in every group discussion,you'll become a better public speaker,more confident in your own thoughts.
Work out
Along the same lines as personal appearance,physical fitness has huge effect on self-confidence.(40)DBy making your body fit and strong,you improve your physical appearance,refresh yourself,and learn something positive.(255words)

A.In fact most people are dealing with the same fear.
B.Walking 25% faster will make you look and feel more important.
C.In fact most people feel good after a walk.
D.If you're out of shape,you'll feel unattractive and less energetic.
E.Listen to an Inspiring Speech.
F.Create a Personal Speech.
G.Most people prefer that because they're afraid of being noticed.

People with confidence walk quickly"提到要走得快,而不是单纯地走.
One of the best ways to build confidence is listening to an inspiring speech.Unluckily,chances to listen to a great speaker are few.You can fill this need by creating a personal speech可知,建立自信的最好方法虽然是听一个演讲,但是机会却很少,所以作者建议自己可以创造一个演讲.
Sit in the Front Row要坐在前排和下文This is for lack of self-confidence可知,此空应该是写不敢坐在前排的一些消极的想法.
根据前文they're afraid that people will judge them for their saying something stupid可知,人们害怕其他人因为不会说话而批判自己.而选项中,A项也提到"are dealing with the same fear"处理这种恐惧.故选A.
Along the same lines as personal appearance,physical fitness has huge effect on self-confidence可知,一个人的外表和身体素质对自信也有影响,空白处也会提到身体素质或者外形.out of shape意为"身体状况不佳;变形,走样".

Everyone has good days and bad days.

Sometimes, you feel as if you’re on top of the world. But occasionally you feel horrible, and you lose things and you cannot focus on your schoolwork.

For more than 20 years, scientists have suggested that high self-esteem (自尊) is the key to success. Now, new research shows that focusing just on building self-esteem may not be helpful. In some cases, having high self-esteem can bring bad results if it makes you less likeable or more upset when you fail at something.

“Forget about self-esteem,” says Jennifer Crocker, a psychologist (心理学家) at the University of Michigan, US. “It’s not the important thing.”

Feeling good

Crocker’s advice may sound a bit strange because it is good to feel good about yourself.

Studies show that people with high self-esteem are less likely to be depressed, anxious, shy, or lonely than those with low self-esteem.

But, after reviewing about 18,000 studies on self-esteem, Roy Baumeister, a psychologist at Florida State University, has found that building up your self-esteem will not necessarily make you a better person.

He believes that violent and wicked (邪恶的) people often have the highest self-esteem of all. He also said: “There’s no evidence that kids with high self-esteem do better in school.”

Problems

All types of people have problems. People with high self-esteem can have big egos (自我) that can make them less likeable to their peers(同龄人), said Kathleen Vohs, a psychology professor at Columbia University.

People with high self-esteem tend to think more of themselves, Vohs says. People with low self-esteem are more likely to rely on their friends when they need help.

What to do

Researchers say it is best to listen to and support other people. Find positive ways to contribute to society. If you fail at something, try to learn from the experience. “The best therapy (药方) is to recognize your faults,” Vohs says. “It’s OK to say, ‘I’m not so good at that,’ and then move on.”
